Mental Illness and Mass Shooting - 1784 Words
A series of shots being fired in the near distance can be heard. A crew of ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks are seen speeding down the streets while blaring their sirens to warn people to move out of the way rapidly. Then, crowds of people are seen running down the street franticly. Sounds of earsplitting yells fill the air. Their eyes are filled with tears of fear and terror. They look as if they were running for their lives. There is a wave of worry and curiosity that washes over everyoneââ¬â¢s face as they stand there from a distance watching it take place. There was a sense of wanting to run towards the chaos to see what was going on. But the panic of the people running gave off the feeling of ââ¬Å"Warning! Do NOT come this way!â⬠Whatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These illnesses then could be a reason to why they do such things like shootings. The new technology there is today in the 21st century can help detect mental illness and improve treatment. There is n o real set way of detecting a mental illness other than examining the behavior of the person. A test that can be done on the brain is called a Computerized Tomography scan. A Computerized Tomography scan, or CT scan for short, basically takes many x-rays at multiple angles of your head and brain in order to create a complete picture. CT scans can give more information than a normal x-ray. It can help detect any injuries done to the head and brain as well as other traumas. These injuries and traumas done to the brain can lead to the cause of a mental illness. This advancement in technology has helped quite significantly in the 21st century. Not only can it provide more information, but the results can be obtained immediately. These results, unlike before in the late 20th century, involve more clear pictures of the object. With the 21st century technology improving the CT scan, more lives are able to be saved. Not only does the 21st century technology help improve the way an illness i s detected, but it also improves the way a mental illness is treated. Treatment methods for the mental health can be categorized as somatic or psychotherapeutic.
